Hello,

Has anyone been invited to a monitoring meeting for your project in Brussels before? What's your experience with this monitoring meeting?

Hi! I had to attend to a mid-term meeting for my project because I’m part of a consortium funded by an ITN-MSCA. We had to report briefly about our projects to a couple of EU officer who were checking if everything was in line with the deliverables and plans we submitted before, and we had also time to talk with them about issues or concerns. Everything went well for us ESRs, but I believe that in our case the most important part was the report on the expenses and on the financial part of the whole project (also that went well) so the supervisors were dealing with that aspect and I can’t tell you anything about it.

I don’t know if my answer can be of any help, good luck in any case!

Hi, I attended a mid- term meeting for our Project as a partner in the consortium of the Project funded by ITN-MSCA. As an ESR, we had to present our projects, progress , future plans and our plan for secondments, and if there’s any expected cooperation/ publication based on that. We had also a private meeting with Project officer, she checked with us if everything is going okay with our supervisors if there’s a problem she’ll interfer to find a suitable solution .

Generally she highlighted the importance of participating in outreach activities, media .... how your research could reach the public.

If you have a specific question, I could clarify as far as possible.

Good luck...

Hi,

Could you provide some details regarding the content and the duration? Was the presentation technically orientated or more general for example, secondement timeline or class attendance?

Hi.

There are guidelines for how exactly the Midterm review should look like.

https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://ec.europa.eu/assets/eac/msca/funded-projects/how-to-manage/funded-projects/how-to-manage/itn/itn-mtr_en.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwi2_pPM0-bgAhXGLVAKHb3jAzoQFjABegQIBxAB&usg=AOvVaw1gB3fZdP00L3ACB2MhISiP

The individual ESR presentations are 7min + 3min "discussion", it should address rather the formal obligation of the ESR projects with respect to the bigger picture, deliverables, secondments etc., the science specificities are not the focus. The project manager is most of the times an economist, the external expert may be quite unrelated to the subject.

I hope this helps a bit :-)

For the closed-door meeting, we as the ESR representatives also did a questionnaire, collecting our feelings on supervision, salary etc, that we presented to the external evaluators - that was very much appreciated.

Cheers,

Barbara
