Poll on appointment of Chapter / Working group Chair position
Dear members, I am doing a Poll on 'appointment of Chapter / Working group Chair position by election' below (please see 2-3 posts below on General). Period can be 1-2 year. Currently, the role of Chapters (which has almost 50-200 members each) as compared to working groups (managed by handful of people) is neglected in terms of amount of funding given. Also, there are differences in the rules of appointment of the Chair positions where Chapter Chair is rotational yearly, which is not applicable for Chair of working group.
MCAA has over 6000 members and only 1-2% (50-100 members) are active, it is progressing in terms of increase number of members, however, it is not so much prgressing in terms of increase number of active members. One of my suggestion is that we should find active people and make them more responsible by giving them more responsibilities and the previous Chair (of Chapter or Working group) should work as 'Chair Coach' for the next candidate. In this way, we ll bring and motivate more active members.
Based on your suggestions, I will forward my suggestions to the Structural format committee.

However, I see the connection. Actually, there are really some unactive groups, election will birng responsible persons to take the leadership. Even for some active groups or chapters, election is a good way to gather people to discuss, active people will join election and discussions.
Dear Chengjun, I totally agree with you. In fact elections are made every single year! I think this is good. The poll is about having them less often.

I must say that I don't see the point of this discussion. Is it about the turnover of chairs, about the governance of chapters and working groups, or about members' participation? In your message you mix the three things and it's not clear to me how they are connected. The connection with the poll you refer to is also not clear. In my opinion the governance of chapters and working groups, and the members' participation are two relevant issues for the association, but I don't see how the rules for electing new chairs would be beneficial to address them.
