Dear MCAA members,
I would like to make it known to all MCAA members that there will be worldwide marches in support of science on Earth day, April 22nd. Please find more information at the link below.
https://www.marchforscience.com/
For Germany specifically, http://marchforscience.de/
Furthermore, would the MCAA officially endorse the science marches in Europe?
Best Regards,
Joseph Braymer

Joey! Good to know! I am based in Frankfurt; it would be good to meet before the March. Are you coming to the GA in Salamanca next week? Please contact me with pm at marco.masia.mcaa@gmail.com. best, marco
Dear Joseph,
MCAA is very interested in contributing to the Science March movement.
MCAA was a signatory of the joint letter of the European Science Organisations maintain transparency, open communication and mobility of scholars and scientists: http://www.scienceeurope.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Open-Letter-from-European-Science-Organisations-10.02.17.pdf
One MSCA fellow, an astrophysicist from Iran, was not able to present at an APS meeting in the USA. MCAA must act to defend the mobility of our members within the scientific community.
I am personally involved in Science March Göttingen, Micaela Crespo in Lausanne, Calum MacKichan in Brussels and Yoran Beldengrün is organising a Science March in Barcelona (sorry if I forgot anybody).
In Germany, the Bundeskanzlerin herself expressed her strong disgreement with Trump's immigration ban. Dr. Georg Schütte, the Head Civil Servant (Staatssekretär) of the Ministry for Education and Research, retweeted our tweet about the open letter. The German Research Organisations (DFG, Humboldt Foundation, DAAD, HRK and many others) drafted their own open letter expressing their support for academic exchange and mobility.
Carlos Moedas, the Commissioner for Research, has expressed his sympathy with the Science March movement.
If anybody else is involved, please let us know.
Warm regards,
Brian
