housing costs secondment

On

Dear Carlos,

The EU rules are qite specific in that your employer must cover all expensen for the secondment (it is a long "dienstreise" and that is how your employer shoud see it) I know from experience that German employers try to get out of it, but the costs for the secondment can be put on the project.

German law also changed beginning of last year in that you have only one official working place, an employer cannot send you to another city for two months and say that that is your working place, this has huge consequences for travel / housing cost reimbursement and also taxes.

If you can not find a solution with your employer or some other way to avoid double costs, I would suggest you contact your project coordinator and find a solution since you can not be forced to spend a lot of money because your employer sends you somewhere (remember your employer got into the agreement with the EU and signed to honour the full agreement, not only the parts they like, they also get a lot of money for it to spend on research as well as the prestige of an EU funded project).

Best regards,

Johan Postema
