Any postdoc in Italy? Hello all, I am a MC postdoc in an Italian company within an ITN network since 4 months ago. I am having some troubles since I do not understand why my net salary keeps changing every month in a big amount, and my boss says that it is impossible to calculate how much I have to earn each month since the taxes vary monthly (that are already around 50%). If there is somebody else working in Italy I would appreciate your experiences in this sense and about the taxation of the mobility allowance. Thanks a lot!

Hi Laura,

Well I'm doing my PhD in Italy with a company also. I have got and still have the same problem here. With taxes, salary amount changing and so far...
Actually till now I still don't know how much is my salary! Besides that with companies the problem is more complex then I thought... There is one other MC follower in the same ITN network as I am but she is at the university, she earn more than me and at least she has a fixed salary.

For the mobility allowance (at least in my case) in my payroll I could see the amount. But then as you said there is more or less 50% of taxes that is calculated on the total amount! I have spoken with them million times in order to understand s.thing but at the end I gave it up, since I have more important thing to do. At least I have money to live.

Hope that I could help you more

I am in Bologna by the way

Hi Laura,

Unfortunatley,I second Nozha on my experiences too.

Its have been almost an year and half for me in Bari University Italy, and my salaries fluctuates in band of around 600 euros. I have spoken with administartion but it always went in vain. I guess you have to just settle with what you are recieving but on the contrary if luckily you manage to find a way kindly suggest us too.

Else for understanding your payroll in a better way you can compare the breakups here.

I hope it might be useful.

Hello all,

I am a Marie Curie experienced researcher at a company in Italy, within an Innovative Training Network. I am having troubles to understand how taxes are calculated and I am wondering if anybody can give some input.

The company is deducting from my annual gross what they call "company costs" (I want to understand these are kind of taxes like social security for having an employee, etc., although there is no number or document that they can show me). This makes around 1/3 of the total annual gross from the fellowship.

I receive the remaining 2/3 gross, of which I pay around 50% taxes. In summary, I receive around 1/3 of the annual gross of the MC fellowship as net salary, which is even lower than some PhDs in other countries in my network.

Anybody knows if this "company costs" have to be paid from my salary or from other parts of the project budget? Anybody in Italy that can share her/his experience?

Thanks for any help and best regards!

Laura
