Economics vs Social Science stream

Are there any MC alumni whose proposals used economics? Can you advise - if you are no an economist, but not based in an economics department, is it best to submit to the social science stream? I have a junior colleague I am mentoring who is submitting today at 5pm for the Global Fellowship and she is not sure what stream to submit to. Any advice welcome at this late stage! Loraine
