International Summer School on Technology Transfer in Life Sciences: 28th August - 1st September 2017 in Dresden

On

In September 2016 I took part in the International Summer School on Technology Transfer in Life Sciences run by the Technical University of Dresden as part of the German government's Excellence Initiative. It was a highly enjoyable and informative event. I recommend any interested people in MCAA to apply to take part in this event. I am very interested in working with the organizers on applications for funding joint workshops in future. The feedback from the Bridging Science and Business Session of the recent GA in Salamanca requested the provision of training in tech transfer. In Dresden learnt about the commercialization of research and the difference between scientific presentations and pitching ideas to potential investors. The Technical University of Dresden is inviting applications to take part in this year's tech transfer summer school that takes place between 28th August - 1st September 2017.

The focus of the event is to encourage researchers to investigate opportunities to transfer their research results towards the economic market. The target audience consists of research group leaders, postdocs and those who have almost finished their PhD. Accommodation, travel and workshop costs are covered for all selected participants. The deadline for applications is 15th June.

The program of the event includes:

  • Identifying potentials in your own research activities
  • Licensing or Spin-off: The decision making step
  • Protection of Intellectual Property (IP)
  • Licensing
  • How to start up: Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences
  • Venture capital as a source of money
  • Presentation of workshop results - Pitching
