🎉 Recently, the Marie Curie Alumni Association China Chapter and Cambridge Chinese Scholars and Students Association (CSSA) hosted an exceptional scholarship application seminar featuring scholars from various fields who are recipients of the Marie Curie and Leverhulme Fellowships.

Representing disciplines such as engineering, energy, artificial intelligence, architecture, economics, and linguistics, these accomplished scholars shared key steps and strategies from their journeys—from preparation to successful application.

The event began with a concise introduction by Dr Fan Mo (vice chair of the MCAA China chapter), who outlined the objectives and content of the session. Dr. Mo provided an overview of the European Union’s “Horizon Europe” program, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA), and the Chinese Scholars’ Association of Marie Curie Fellows, setting a solid foundation for the discussions that followed.

Next, CSSA Cambridge President Ruo Han Zhang and Zhengxuan Liu, Vice Chair of the MCAA China chapter, delivered welcoming remarks. They warmly thanked the speakers and wished for a successful event. Mr. Liu also shared insights into the association’s development and its wide range of academic activities, highlighting its diverse platform and robust support network.

Dr. Karlis Rokpelnis from Euraxess then gave an in-depth presentation on the “Horizon Europe” program and the Marie Curie Fellowship, offering practical tips on accessing relevant information and helping attendees better understand the funding’s structure.

In the session on the Leverhulme Trust, Dr. Zhiwu Wei and Dr. Chenzi Xu provided a detailed analysis of the fellowship’s key elements. Drawing on their personal application experiences, they broke down the eligibility criteria, critical points in drafting application materials, and submission tips. They emphasized the importance of presenting research plans that are innovative, clear, feasible, and succinctly written.

Following this, Dr Tao Yang, Dr Zhongzhong Wang, and Dr Zeyuan Xu offered deep insights into the application process for the Marie Curie Fellowship. They discussed how to select research topics, refine proposal materials (including formatting and weight distribution), and gave practical advice on identifying host institutions and building collaborative relationships.

Finally, Dr. Jerry Chen shared his application journey for the Isaac Newton Trust through an engaging interview. From sourcing information to preparing for interviews, he left no stone unturned. Dr. Chen also provided valuable advice on career choices and academic pathway planning, offering attendees profound inspiration.

The audience actively participated, raising specific questions across various fields. The speakers patiently addressed these queries, fostering a lively and engaging atmosphere.
