Editorial - Welcome message from the new Editor-in-Chief

Newsletter

For more than 2 years now, I have been interested in science policy and science communication. Along with my everyday job as a researcher in a molecular biology lab, I wanted a platform to give back to the community.

At one moment, I saw an open call for the Managing Editor of the MCAA Newsletter and – as a former MSCA Fellow – I applied. Even though I applied a bit late, my application was considered by Sasha. Already during the first call, it was obvious we shared the same enthusiasm, and I found the aim of the Newsletter meaningful and an initiative I wanted to be part of. Since then, I became a core member of the team, I helped move things forward, improve the system and hold the team together. At the same time, I met excellent people who joined the team for a shorter or a longer time, and I had the chance to read articles of outstanding experts from various fields.

Skipping forward to this March, I got the opportunity to join the MCAA Annual Conference in Milan. One of my friends says that a very small portion of people are deeply active, volunteering in any possible way and typically truly altruistic. In Milan, I could meet a room full of such people. For a short moment, I was just watching the gathering and enjoying the fact that the world can be a nice place with nice people - this is what such communities are good for; you fit in and you can find your peers.

My experience managing the MCAA newsletter led to a role in which I coordinate the PR and science communication activities at one of the institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. Basically, I am now helping others share their scientific work to a wider audience.

Recently, I decided to fill in the position that Sasha left free. The positive functioning environment of the Newsletter editorial team and the support from the MCAA Board convinced me. I am excited to lead the newsletter into a new chapter and ensure its continued success.

Happy to be your new Editor-in-Chief!
